With every passing year, more and more companies are integrating remote positions into their frameworks. The benefits of a remote position are obvious, ultimate flexibility, ability to live where you choose, conforming to your own schedule, fostering your own ideal work environment, etc. However, there are some serious downsides to working from home, including a lack of social interaction and collaboration, more distance and less communication with supervisors and team members, ample opportunities for distraction, etc. Here at Luna Brand Management, we have the solution. We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of tactics to help you master the art of working from home.
- Get dressed. Working in your pajamas sounds like a dream come true but getting dressed in the morning will kickstart your day and put you in work-mode.
- Music only during work hours. With no one else “in the office,” it is easy to queue up a couple episodes of Parks and Rec as background noise, but its best to create an environment promoting productivity and work. This means no TV during work hours.
- Separate your space. The biggest downfall of a remote employee is working from bed. If there is one thing you can do to help yourself and create a productive work environment, it is to move into another room and create a mental workspace. It is hard to live your entire life from your home, but in order to preserve your sanity, try sectioning off a specific space for work.
- Stick to a schedule, even without “clocking out.” Here at Luna Brand Management, we know that once you get into the work groove, it can be difficult to stop and take a break. However, in a typical office setting, when its time to go home, it feels more forced. Working from home, it is easy to fall into the trap of “I just want to finish this project,” and then you find yourself working until 9pm, something that likely wouldn’t happen in the office, which has been closed for hours. While working from home, give yourself a “closing time,” and force yourself to put down the work, it can always wait until tomorrow.
The common theme through all of these tips is productivity over convenience. It is easier to work from bed, but you need to get up and move. It is easier to stay in your slippers, but you should probably jump in the shower and change your clothes each morning. The greatest success for a remote employee will come when they learn to combat convenience and foster productive habits. From all of us here at Luna Brand Management, we wish you a happy workday. Now get out of bed and get to work.
